Why was Stephen F. Austin an important part of Texas History?
Stephen F. Austin was very important in gaining Texas' independence. Austin was commander in many events of the Texas Revolution. Stephen F. Austin is named the "Father of Texas" because his actions against Mexico helped Texas become a Republic. He created the Austin Colony and settled over 900 families. The Texas Capital, numerous k-12 schools and a University are named in Stephen F. Austin's honor.
